The Urban Garden Market will remain open on Saturday mornings through October 23. Visit us this Saturday to buy fresh fall produce, homemade baked goods, and delicious barbecue for footfall viewing. Purdue Extension Agents Phil and Edie Sutton will visit once again. Phil will answer your questions about putting your garden to bed for the winter. Edie will bring another tasty and nutritious dish, using in-season vegetables with both tastes and recipes to share.
The URBAN GARDEN MARKET is located at 1025 N. Bendix, just south of Bendix & Lincoln Way West. It's open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

How Families Can Save Money by Being Good to the Earth

Displays created by groups of area children showing ways families can save money by being good to the environment. Attendees will vote on the displays, and the winning group will be awarded a pizza party provided by Barnaby’s Pizza of Mishawaka.

A free reusable tote bag provided to each of the first 100 families at the event.

A free compact fluorescent light bulb provided to each of the first 100 families at the event.

Showing of Oxfam International’s DVD, Sisters on the Planet, which showcases inspirational stories of women around the world who are taking action to find solutions and make climate change action a reality.

A station where attendees can write notes to Senator Richard Lugar encouraging him to support climate change legislation.

A rain-barrel provided the St. Joseph County Soil and Water Conservation District will be on display and given away in a free drawing.

A worm composting display.

Special guest Javaughn Fernanders, South Bend artist and photographer, who will display her exhibit “Black and Green is Beautiful,” a set of images created to dispel the common perception that African Americans have no interest in the environment.

At this meeting, Lee Byers and Bill Weeks will provide an update on the Salvation Army's "Women and Minority Business Program" for the Kroc Center.
Hiring goals for the construction of the Center have the target of 18% minority and women owned contractors and minority and women construction workers.
Also at this meeting: the latest information on the South Bend Tax Abatement Ordinance revision and the future of the LaSalle Branch Library.
