1. This week at the URBAN GARDEN MARKET:
Something for almost everyone!
Fall fruits and vegetables in abundance. Bar-b-q, homemade bread and cookies, beignets and pastries, pumpkins and gourds and more. There will be two special events this Saturday.
In support of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Women in Touch, an outreach of Memorial Hospital to minority women, will have an informational booth providing important educational materials on breast health and breast cancer screening. Also, Walkerton's Kathy Jerrell from will be performing on her dulcimer from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Due to popular request by both vendors and market customers, the dates for the Urban Garden Market will be extended three more weeks from October 2nd to October 23rd. After a successful second season, the Market will continue on with fall produce plus baked goods, fresh beignets and Bar-b-q.
The URBAN GARDEN MARKET is located at 1025 N. Bendix, just south of Bendix & Lincoln Way West. It's open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

3. Tuesday, October 19th — Next meeting of the Community Forum for Economic Development – Update on the KROC CENTER
At this meeting, Lee Byers and Bill Weeks will provide an update on the Salvation Army's "Women and Minority Business Program" for the Kroc Center. At a CFED-sponsored public forum last May, Major Bob Webster emphasized that local hiring is the Salvation Army's number one priority and that they have a target goal of 18% minority and women owned contractors and 18% minority and women construction workers. Mr. Byers and Mr. Weeks will update us on the progress they have made in reaching those goals.
Also at this meeting: the latest information on the South Bend Tax Abatement Ordinance revision and the future of the LaSalle Branch Library.
