July 15: Community Forum Working Meeting

JULY MEETING OF THE COMMUNITY FORUM FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
TUESDAY, JULY 15, 2014 — 7 PM — LASALLE BRANCH LIBRARY

This will be a working meeting, focusing on three current projects.  We'll spend the first hour divided into three groups, meeting simultaneously, discussing and planning future actions concerning

1. Affordable Housing, in particular the upcoming public hearing (July 28) on the 2015-2019 Plan for the use of HUD funds, including CDBG and HOME funding.  As second issue to be discussed is a proposed revision to South Bend's Tax Abatement Ordinance that would provide an abatement for housing rehabilitation.

2. A follow-up to our last public forum on employment barriers for ex-offenders.  One issue will be a proposed "Ban the Box" ordinance for South Bend that would remove any question about an individual's conviction history from initial job applications, specifically for employers seeking City contracts or tax abatements.

3. A report on the formation of the "Indiana Moral Mondays Working Group" and a discussion on how we can respond locally.

This meeting is open to the public, and we especially encourage participation by CFED members, others who have participated in previous meetings of our Affordable Housing Committee,  community members who have a special interest in economic opportunities for ex-offenders, and anyone who would like to bring the "Moral Mondays" movement to Indiana and eventually to South Bend.
