August Meeting — Community Forum for Economic Development

Tuesday, August 17 — 7 PM — LaSalle Branch Library, 3232 W. Ardmore Trail, South Bend

Focus for discussion: WHY DOES THE PROPOSED TAX ABATEMENT ORDINANCE HAVE BROAD COMMUNITY SUPPORT?

Currently, fifteen community organizations make up the Coalition for Responsible Tax Abatement:

Community Forum for Economic Development
LaSalle Park Neighborhood Association
League of Women Voters of the South Bend Area
Martin Luther King, Jr.; Senior Men’s Club
Michiana African-American Chamber of Commerce
Michiana Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
Michiana Social Forum
North Central Indiana Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO,
Northeast Neighborhood Council, Inc.
Real Estate Investors Association — North Central Indiana
Sierra Club of Michiana
South Bend NAACP
St. Joseph Valley Building Trades Council
St. Joseph Valley Project
Western Avenue Business Association

At the August CFED meeting, representatives of the these groups will summarize why their organizations support Bill 10-25, the proposed revision to the South Bend Tax Abatement Ordinance.  We encourage you to join that discussion.  Because the Common Council considers the City's Budget in September, the public hearing and vote on Bill 10-25 now has been postponed until October 11.
