A COMMUNITY FORUM: BREAK THE SCHOOL TO PRISON PIPELINE
Saturday, September 12, 2015 — IU South Bend, Wiekamp Hall
In March, two public meetings were held to discuss what is known as the “School to Prison Pipeline.” Over a hundred local residents attended one or both of these meetings. Although the meetings were sponsored by the Community Forum for Economic Justice, it was clear that their success was due to the important contributions of other community organizations and activists.
The September event is being organized to further explore these issues, bring together groups and individuals concerned about different aspects of this complicated problem, win support for programs already in existence, and encourage the development of new programs where needed. Our goal is to engage more people in efforts to end the school to prison pipeline.
A planning committee met last week to develop and implement the specific plans for the event. This committee included local activists with an impressive array of skills and experience. We invite your participation as well. The next planning committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 21st but smaller groups will be planning both program and logistics before then. If you are willing to join these working sub-committees, please respond to sjc.cfed@gmail.com. If you have any questions or suggestions call Linda Wolfson 574-234-7235 or Regina Williams-Preston 514-9327.
