of the Coalition for Responsible Tax Abatement met on Thursday, July 1,
to further develop plans for supporting the passage of Bill 25-10, an
ordinance that would amend the current South Bend Tax Abatement
Ordinance. This Bill is scheduled for a public hearing and vote at the August 9th
meeting of the South Bend Common Council. The Martin Luther King, Jr.
Senior Men's Club is the newest member of the coalition, which now
includes twelve organizations.
Community Forum participants are already involved in the effort to save
the LaSalle Branch — contacting Library Board members and the elected
officials who appointed these members, and getting additional
signatures on a petition to save the library.
Beginning Saturday, July 10, the LaSalle Branch Library will be open
from Noon until 4 PM. The Urban Garden Market is open each Saturday
morning from 9 AM until 1 PM. A special table will contain information
about and build support for the efforts of all community groups working
to save the library. Join us one or more Saturdays to talk with Market
customers, get signatures on petitions, etc. To volunteer, call Linda
Wolfson, 234-7235 or email sjc.cfed@gmail.com.

South Bend edition of the July 1, 2010 South Bend Tribune has a great article about
the Market, written by Amaris Bailey. A Video is also posted on the
