you oppose urban sprawl? Is local food production an important issue
for you? Do you know how decisions are made about St. Joseph County
land use? Why is the protection of farmland an important issue for
both rural and urban communities? Brenda Wishin and several
neighbors from Warren Township will join us to describe their efforts
to protect agricultural land from sub-division development.
an AmeriCorps worker at South Bend Heritage Foundation will provide an
update on local foreclosure intervention programs and will describe
loan modification scams to avoid.
3) SUPPORT BANKING REFORMS..
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a financial reform bill that includes the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Agency, an essential element in financial reform and protection against the kind of behaviors that created the financial crisis. The Senate is now considering dropping the agency from its bill, due to massive lobbying by the banking industry. Judy Fox, an attorney from the Notre Dame Legal Aid Clinic, will explain why this agency is so critical and ask for help in contacting Senators to support it.
