Remember the fun of the old hulla hoop?  Kids of all ages still love them.

Come join in a “hoopJAM” at the Urban Garden Market the next two Saturdays (July 24th & 31st) from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. A hoopJAM spontaneously occurs when a large number of hula hoops arrive at any given location.  Hula hoop dance is fast becoming a modern form of fun, exercise, community building and creative expression. Join Kelly Strycker & South Bend Drum Circle for a Saturday in a hoop or on a drum. Adult and kids hoops will be available to borrow or to purchase.  All are welcome!  Ms Stryker will also explain her craft of custom made hoops.

The Urban Garden Market is open from 9:00 am– 1:00 pm and offers fresh produce, various baked goods, food products, flowers and herbs.  We're located at 1025 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend,  (Just south of Lincoln Way West)

Visit the "Save the Library" table for copies of the petition being circulated by the LWW Gateway Association and formation about how to contact members of the Library Board as well as the elected public officials who appointed them.  You can also learn more about the working committees which formed Tuesday night at the "Working Together to Save the Library" public meeting.

3. March for Human Rights: Thursday July 29 at 4:30PM
–Assemble and rally at Jon R. Hunt Plaza, Downtown South Bend; march, closing rally at Civil Rights Heritage Center, West Washington Street.

A local coalition of social justice groups–including La Casa de Amistad youth organization, Jobs with Justice, and Michiana Social Forum invite and encourage all community residents to join the March for Human Rights and to end racial profiling. Help us support the idea that no human being is “illegal,” and encourage legal reforms that respect the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and end U.S. policies that encourage migration by making it impossible for people to survive in their home countries.

The march will assemble at 4:30 at the Jon R. Hunt Plaza in front of the Morris Performing Arts Center. Following a brief rally, the march will proceed to Congressman Joe Donnelly’s office, where marchers will present a petition for national immigration legislation reform. Participants will march past the Superior Court to acknowledge the importance of the rule of law and the injustice of discriminatory laws. A rally will then be held at the new Civil Rights Heritage Center on West Washington St., linking today’s struggle with our city’s past efforts to resist racial discrimination.

Students who are helping lead this march participated in the recent United States Social Forum in Detroit last month, where they met youth leaders and community activists from around the country, learned skills and ideas for organizing, and gained experience and energy to help make our Michiana community better. They came home and reached out to other community groups, giving our community a chance to respond to the call from a large and diverse set of movements from around the country to take action on Thursday July 29.
