Since January 2008, the Community Forum for Economic Development has
supported the United Way's "Pro$perity Building Tax Team" through VITA, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program,
that offers free tax preparation and e-filing for
low-to-moderate-income taxpayers. We've helped to recruit and train tax
preparers and other support volunteers who have collectively built a
very successful program in St. Joseph and four surrounding counties.
During the 2012 tax season, VITA prepared federal and state returns for
approximately 1400 St. Joseph County residents.

Thursday, September 26, for an Open House program that will further
describe VITA and the ways that you can offer your support. The Open
House will be held between 6 and 8 pm at the United Way office, 3517
East Jefferson Blvd., South Bend.
